“Entheoartifact I” is an interactive kinetic light sculpture. It is a blacklight phenakistoscope that allows viewers to alter the strobe rate of UV LEDs; thereby altering the animation frame rate of the rotating fluorescent sculpture. Inspired by a vision of the artist, the main form is that of a cup-or-faces optical illusion. The use of color was designed to leverage the effects of optional ChromaDepth glasses; which were installed as part of the sculpture’s installation and were otherwise available to gallery guests. The sculpture was first exhibited at the 2015 juried DayGlo IV exhibition at Waterloo Arts Gallery in the Waterloo Arts District of Cleveland, OH. It was then installed in 2016 at the Doubting Thomas Gallery “Walk Across America” exhibition, and again at the opening reception for the invitational “Dreams & Visions: Fantasy and Surrealism” exhibition at The Gallery at Lakeland.
